Oprah visited this small paradise in the Caribbean called Nevis and brought this best kept secret to everyone’s notice.

Nevis is part of St. Kitts and Nevis or the British Antilles.  Nevis is a lush tropical paradise - a small island with great people.   The temperature averages about 79 degrees Fahrenheit from November to April (perfect for that escape from the winter).  From May to October it's somewhat hotter and more humid. The average water temperature is 80 degrees F.

The island is only 36 square miles in area approximately - 7 miles long and 5 miles wide, and lies near the top of the Lesser Antilles archipelago, about 200 miles south of Puerto Rico, and just west of Antigua.

It has several fine, black sand beaches, but Pinney's and Newcastle seem to be the all-around favorites.  Diving is becoming a favored sport; other activities include surfing, snorkeling, hiking, tennis, and golf. Of course, afternoon tea is a must, as is watching cricket matches.  If you have not been introduced to cricket yet, this may be a perfect opportunity to learn the basics.

When Oprah Winfrey visited the island, she was told that the best cook in town was June Mestier, a Trinidad-born lady.  Oprah arranged to have a private meal cooked by Ms. Mestier and after trying her dishes, Oprah convinced her to open a restaurant.  Many celebrities have since visited Miss June’s restaurant.  It offers island food with an international flare and has set menus at about $65 per person.

Nevus has seen a host of other celebrities including Robert De Niro, Kelly Ripa and Britney Spears.

American citizens do not require a visa (only proof of citizenship such as a birth certificate or passport).  Other nationalities require passports and visas.
