Hummus Place New York City |

My wife and I are what is technically known these days as flexitarians; in other words, we are somewhat flexible. We have no dietary restrictions but are flexible between being a meat-eater and vegetarian. We tend to eat a lot more vegetarian food since with all the hormones injected into the animals and the mistreatment of animals by the food processing industry (highlighted so well in PETA ads), plus all the mercury found in fish, there is not much choice really. So in one of our frequent trips to New York City where we try to check out new restaurants, we ended up tired and famished in the West Village area (71 7th Ave. South at Bleecker Street). And there we saw a somewhat plain and humble looking (contrary to all the snooty places in Manhattan where waiters can be quite obnoxious if you have not just popped out of an Italian luxury car) restaurant called Hummus Place. My wife has always been a fan of Middle Eastern food (despite never having visted there) and we walked right in. The place was plain and clean, the food inexpensive, but authentic and delicious. As you can see from the photo below, we had pita bread, pickles, and dishes made from vegetables and yogurt. Loved it and strongly recommended.
