Do you know where John F. Kennedy Jr. went on his honeymoon? Actually, the stylish man that he was, he had a very exotic honeymoon with his lovely wife Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. They did not go to the traditional resorts; instead, he took a relatively low-key trip to many places, including Honduras. In western Honduras he visited the Mayan ruins of Copan – a very unique and impressive place for those fascinated by history and architecture. In fact filmmaker Mel Gibston was so fascinated that he is making the movie Apocalpyto in that part of the world. This is a place for nature and adventure lovers, but it is easy to get to and has relatively good hotels and food at a very low price. No wonder Richard Gere also visited there with his family.
Then he when to Roatan – another delightful vacation spot in Honduras. Roatan is one of those best-kept secrets of the Caribbean. Roatan is a relatively small island and has the distinct honor of having the second largest coral reef in the world. The island is relatively undeveloped but fun to visit for its pristine beaches. As you can imagine, it has a lot of opportunities for water sports like snorkeling and diving. Plus you can enjoy the freshest and most delicious seafood obtained locally.Honduras is very close to Miami. It is a short flight from there and you can either land in San Pedro Sula or Tegucigalpa. From there, you can use taxi or a bus to go anywhere.
