Survivor is one of the most successful TV programs at this time. It has been filmed in many exotic locales that have made a lot of us think about vacationing there. Well, Panama has been the host to the show, not to just one but to three seasons: Survivor, Survivor All Stars, and Survivor Pearl Islands.
Why Panama?
Panama is an exotic place to visit. English is widely spoken, US dollar is the official currency, and the culture is highly Americanized as a result of the many years of US military presence in the country. And let’s not forget there is the very famous Panama Canal that was built by the United States. It is easy to do business or vacation in Panama for Americans. Panama is also very close to the USA – just a few hours by flight from almost anywhere. Panama has a lot to offer to tourists as well - from world class hotels and food to the every exotic places you must have seen on Survivor. Panama is a small country, so the locations you see on TV are not very far from Panama City (the only big city in the country and the capital). Transportation is very easy in Panama and prices, although not a bargain, are lower than Europe and the US.
Vacations in PanamaJust to see the Panama Canal and the Canal museum is a treat by itself, but Panama has a lot more to offer. In the north they have great beaches and excellent resorts. Very close to Panama City is the Gamboa area where you can enjoy eco-tourism around the Panama Canal watershed. A shot flight will take you to many small islands that are still inhabited by indigenous people. Delta, American, and Continental airlines have frequent flights to Panama and the fares are generally low. Many of the leading hotels, such as Westin and Intercontinental, have affordable hotels in the area.
