Salma Hayek and Colin Farrell in South Africa

Ask the Dust, the new movie with Colin Farell and Salma Hayek was partly filmed in South Africa.  The movie is an adaptation of Depression era novel by John Fante.  Why South Africa? The reason is simple - the movie depicts Los Angeles in the depression era and Los Angeles has changed a lot since them.  Due to the modernization of the city, the film ended up being shot in South Africa, where a large set recreating downtown L.A., circa 1933, was built from scratch.

The movie was filmed in Cape Town, a picturesque city.  Both Salma and Collin have good things to say about Cape Town.  "I think this city is gorgeous," Farrell said in an interview.  He also expressed that he would like to visit the city again.  Salma also had good things to say,  "I wake up every morning and see the beautiful sunrise. It's different every day; it makes this city almost artistic. It's a magical place."

The location and the weather are just fantastic; and the people here are thinner and haven't had cosmetic surgery."

Cape Town is an ideal area for vacations.  It is considered by many as one of the most beautiful places in Africa. Its culture has a mix of Indonesian, French, Dutch, British and German settlers in addition to the local Khoisan (Bushman & Hottentot) tribes and the Bantu tribes from the north.

It is also home to the Table Mountain, a pristine coastline with white sandy beaches, countryside with rivers, dams, and unique vegetation.  You can taste wine in the Cape Winelands, enjoy scenic drives, and play golf. There are opportunities for diving, bungee jumping, and paragliding over stunning landscapes. Explore the outdoors, be it hiking, sailing, running, surfing or dolphin/whale watching, and eat exotic meals in great restaurants. Travel to this city is easy and it can be part of a safari vacation in the north.  Or for that matter, travel anywhere in Africa as Bill and Melinda Gates did on their honeymoon.  Also if you are really stressed out, as Dave Chapelle was - South Africa is a place to de-stress.
