Angelina Jolie is a remarkable woman and actor and she does a terrific job of transforming herself for each role that she plays, but how do you become the person that is living and happens to be a friend. That was the challenge that she faced when she decided to play the widow of Daniel Pearl in the film "The Might Heart." It so turns out that even before Brad Pitt came up with the idea to go ahead with the movie, both Angie and Marianne Peral were already close friends and so were their children. Generally speaking when Hollywood celebrities play roles that are new for them (e.g. when John Travolta became a firefighter in Ladder 49), they spend days/weeks working or visiting or learning about these roles. Definitely, the friendship with Marianne helped Angelina Jolie become a better her. Watch her video interview below.
I admire the relationship that Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, and Ashton Kutcher have, but we now have another interesting couple out there: Larry Birkehead and Howard Stern. As you might know, Birkhead is the father of Dannielynn, the daughter of Anna Nicole Smith. Howard Stern, on the other hand, was Smith's companion and assumed all along that he was the father. After a lot of legal drama, Birkhead has been declared the father and guardian of Dannielynn, and while I am sure Howard Stern is disappointed but instead of fighting with Birkhead, he has stepped aside and become his partner so that they can do what is best for Anna's daughter.
My wife and I were speaking about Daniel Pearl and we were debating what Jew in his right mind would travel to Pakistan, a country that is known to be home to hundreds of thousands of terrorists, and possibly Osama Bin Laden and other Taliban members, but he did, because above everything else, he was a professional. He was simply doing his job to find the best possible information for a story and bring it to everyone else. Sadly he was brutally murdered and his wife Marianne Pearl helped Angelina Jolie play her character in the movie "A Mighty Heart." Not surprisingly, Brad Pitt owned the rights to the movie and he has said that he did not know how to approach the topic with her. But when he did suggest to his "girlfriend" that he wanted her to play the lead role, she enthusiastically accepted it. What a couple! Watch the video story below that has some background on this remarkable movie, including clips, and an interview with Angie.
I wonder when John Travolta recently defended fellow Scientologist Tom Cruise regarding the use of depression drugs, was he doing it to create news so that his movie "Hairspray" will be a hit. Who knows? One thing is for sure, though. Hairspray is a remarkable movie and John Travolta is the best and so is Queen Latifah. The Broadway play has been a smashing success and I am sure we will all love the big-screen version. Here is a video with clips from the film and interviews with the cast members, including John Travolta.
Remember Steve Carell from the Daily Show working with Jon Stewart? He has come a long way since then starring in The office, 40 Year Old Virgin, and Little Miss Sunshine. Now one of the most popular comedy stars has done a remarkable job in "Evan Almighty." In this movie, the background is historical and religious (Christian) but if you like to laugh and have a good time at the movies, you will enjoy it. Watch this video of a brief interview of Steve Carrell and clips from the movie.
The Paris Hilton circus continues. A car dealer in New Jersey is offering deep discounts as long as she is in jail. Now Maury Rubin, the baker of The City Bakery, is selling cakes with the title "Paris Hilton Visitor's Cake." I wonder what the baker at Magnolia Bakery is thinking. To me all this "creativity" is simply taking advantage of a Hollywood celebrity 's misery and making a quick buck. Watch the video clip below in which the baker talks about his inspiration. BTW, he is not anti-Paris and did not intend to ridicule her.
While Paris Hilton said that she did not deserve to be in prison and it was not right, being in jail can sometimes be an opportunity to turn your life around. That is what happened to Filippo La Matia, who learned Sicilian cooking while in a jail in Sicily for a crime that he did not commit (reminds me of the movie Heaven, in which Philippa Paccard, an English teacher in Italy who was also almost convicted). While in prison, he discovered the value of food and the pleasure of cooking and now he owns the world-famous Ristorante Trattoria (Via del pozzo delle cornacchi) in Roma (Rome). His story is so engaging that it has even been turned into a movie "All the women in my life," since he attributes everything in his life to a woman around him. Watch the video below about his remarkable story.
Since I first saw The Police performing at the Golden Globes awards, I couldn't wait to watch them perform again, for the rest of us. It is sad to see a band breakup, though you do get wonderful music from Sting, and that is why it is even more exciting to see that Police is back with a bang. Here is a photo of Sting on the guitar when the band performed in Manchester, Tennessee. Trust me, it was a hell of a concert, and everybody loved the show.
Can you believe that Masi Oka is on the list of People's hottest bachelors? Well, he is kinda cute but the man who beats them all is Matthew McConaughey, who for reasons that he discloses in this video, is rarely photographed in regular guy clothes but is so often seen in his swimsuit playing with water in Malibu or Hawaii. Of course, other hot bachelors are regular Hollywood celebrities like Zach Braff, Princes William and Harry, Justin Timberlake, and George Clooney.
Now that Bollywood stars are having some success in Hollywood (Neha Dhupia is here, Shilpa Shetty has a fragrance, Preeti Desai is Miss Great Britain, and Aishwarya Ray has already acted in several movies), some Hollywood producers are looking to India. Like the movie On The Other Side, in the movie "Marigold," an American woman (played by Ali Larter who has become a star after the success of Heroes with Masi Oka), travels to Goa to strike it rich. Like all Bollywood movies, things start bad in the beginning, there is a lot of dancing around the trees, and then everyone has a big smile at the end. Watch a video preview below.
