If you are a fan of the Ocean movies franchise, you will love the latest Ocean's Thirteen. As usual, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Ellen Barkin, and Al Pacino all deliver stellar performances. Mind you, like the previous two movies, the plot is very complex, so that you will need to pay attention to each and every detail. Well, maybe only if you have a criminal mind - just kidding. But the point is that big time criminals are also very clever; they just use their talents for wrong things, sadly. And director Steven Soderbergh has done a remarkable job showing how criminal minds work and can beat some of the smartest cops.
For reasons known only to people that are obsessed with them, that is Brangelina (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie), their lives are monitored under a powerful lens. Of course, Angie makes it a point to spend as much time as she can on her humanitarian work and that puts her in the spotlight. Also she has adopted children from Africa and Combodia.
Chacun Son cinéma (English: To Each His Cinema) is an interesting film. It is actually a collection of 35 shorts by several different directors about their perspectives on the great art of moviemaking. It is a beautiful film in several languages (with English subtitles). And that is where our lovely friend Sharon Stone was. She attended the premiere of the film at Cannes.
As many of us know, Cannes is a favorite hangout of not just Hollywood celebrities, but stars from everywhere. It is beautiful there and for people like you and I the worst time is to go during the film festival, unless your employer is paying to cover the event. It is best to combine it with a trip to France or St. Tropez and schedule at least a week to fully absorb all the good things about France.
The most I have ever been scared is not while watching a horror movie but in real life. No matter how scary a movie is, unless you are a kid, somewhere in your mind you know that you are only watching a movie. It is even easier when you are in a cinema because there are others around you.
But what if the horror unfolded without even trying? Sometimes truth can be scarier than fiction. “Belinda Bentley’s Raw Fear” is such a film. It is a journey of 7 strangers from all walks of life. Believers and non-believers of the supernatural.
The movie simply follows the characters (no they aren't acting) through a series of events, taking place on several haunted properties. Each of them having experiences in possession and dealing with other supernatural beings.
So if you want the real stuff, this is a movie to check out. This is a reality film. There are no special effects, there are no graphics. Just plain horror.
One of the things that you will notice on Hollywood celebrities is that they have this really smooth skin color. It should come as no surprise to you that most stars already have beautiful skin and great bodies, but they also have a lot of help from the professionals. For instance, right before a red carpet appearance, they seek a tan.
Of course you could be in Los Cabos, or if that is not a possibility, then head to The Palms Tanning Resort in Denver, Colorado (especially if you are vacationing at the Nell in Aspen). This salon offers The Mystic Sunless Tanning System, which created the UV-free, spray-on tanning industry in the late 1990's.
And if you are not in Colorado, don't worry; they have other locations too.
If you need an excuse to visit California (make sure you combine it with trips to Hollywood and Malibu), here is one: attend the Official John Wayne Centennial Celebration, a highlighted feature of the 8th Annual Newport Beach Film Festival. In his honor, the city will commemorate the Duke’s 100th year with screenings of the movies that made him a star, including “The Sands of Iwo Jima” (1949), “Rio Bravo” (1959), and “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” (1962).
The Newport Beach Film Festival hosted the world debut of Oscar-winning “Crash” in 2005 and has more than 350 films from around the world scheduled in this year’s line up. Glamorous premiers, star-studded galas and yacht parties surround a variety of feature films, shorts, documentaries and animations, complemented by screening of some of John Wayne’s most famous films. A lot of Hollywood celebrities will attend.
I have to confess that the best Indian food I ate was not in India - it was in London. So if you are in the UK, try to check out an Indian restaurant called the British Raj (the word "raj" means rule a nation). Why? Apparently Kanye West liked the food so much that he paid a whopping four thousand dollars (a lot of money particularly because dollar is down) for the food to be shipped to New York with a chef who will serve it a business meeting.
And oh, by the way, Indian curries have many health benefits - turmeric fights cancer and research shows that capsaicin, a chemical found in pepper, makes fat cells self-destruct and improves metabolism helping you lose weight.
Marissa Jaret Winokur, who has won a Tony award for acting in Broadway musical "Hairspray," is going to act in a pilot of "Fugly." I am
starting to suspect that this project has been revived after the enormous success of "Ugly Betty."
What is the plot?
Two identical twin sisters and their brother are the main characters. The brother and one of the sisters decide to give a complete plastic surgery makeover to the "ugly" sister. It also reminds me of another plastic surgery inspired reality series called "The Swan." And it does not stop there - they actually relocate to Hollywood to "exploit" here new looks. Sounds interesting!
Since the day Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes started dating, Katie has gone into the background - more so after their Italian wedding. There are rumors that Tom wants her to become a homemaker and raise his kids rather than letting her pursue her career as an actor. I rarely see her as a Hollywood celebrity in her own light - she is always under the ovewhelming presence of Tom. He also forced her to convert to Scientology so that each and every moment of her life is now "supervised" by a church staff. This was so apparent on Oscar night at the Vanity Fair after-party when Tom simply wouldn't let her have the spotlight without him. I hope that she is a willing partner in this game; otherwise, I feel sorry for her to have to become such a subservient wife. I think if their role models are Victoria and David Beckham, then Katie should be allowed to enter the spotlight.
Her ex-boyfriend is not shy to share the secrets and it turns out that she acts like an animal in bed. In an interview, he says, "Britney is not shy about her body so she slowly stripped off her clothes and beckoned me to join her under the stars in the pool. It was an amazing view over the Las Vegas strip. But we didn't stay long as we wanted to try out the bed. So we clambered on and I grabbed the remote and started it turning round and round. All the time as we made love we watched ourselves in the mirrored ceiling. It was amazing but we did it so many times it made us start to feel sick. We had to turn it off."
