After choosing Italy for their wedding and their wedding night, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes chose Maldives as their honeymoon spot (it is believed that David Beckham and Victoria, who are very close to the couple recommended the destination to them). Maldives is a group of island in the Indian Ocean with as many as 87 exclusive resort islands.
A country of just a quarter million people, it welcomes people from all over the world (no visas required). English is widely spoken. Several major airlines like Austrian, Singapore, and Air Europe fly into the country. Hilton, W, and Club Med all have luxury resorts there allowing you to enjoy a true tropical vacation.
While you are welcome to just make love all day, but in case you get tired, try scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, and whale/dolphin watching. |

While TomKat (Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes) after their wedding at the Odescalchi Castle in Rome, had their honeymoon in the Maldives, they did spend their wedding night in Italy itself. They chose Hassler Roma or Hotel Hassler at the top of the Spanish Steps in Rome.
It is an exotic location for your honeymoon with breathtaking views of Rome. Plus, you get to enjoy the amazing hospitality of Italian people. While I might call it priceless, but don't you worry. It is fairly affordable. The honeymmon package for two nights in the Villa Medici is just a little bit more than 1,200 Euros, and includes breakfast, airport transfer, snacks, wine, etc.Hey, it's not difficult being TomKat for a few nights. |

Following in the footsteps of many Hollywood celebrities (and more recently, Rachael Ray who wed at the Castello di Velona), TomKat (Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes), got married in Italy. At the Odescalchi castle in Bracciano (not too far from Rome) to be precise. (Related destinations in Italy: Venice, Milano, Ponza)
The guest list included Brooke Shields, Will Smith, Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey, Giorgio Armani, Andrea Bocelli, and Victoria Beckham, though Oprah was not invited.
The castle is an imposing building that has it roots all the way into 13th century. And while TomKat reportedly spent millions of dollars in renting the venue, decoration, and security, you can visit the museum too at a fraction of the cost. It is also possible to visit the bar and restaurant, watch the fireworks or other shows, and even organize special events like conferences and weddings (it has a private chapel). And not all weddings cost as much as TomKat's. So the best thing to do is to contact the castle directly with your requirements. |

So Madonna is not the only Hollywood celebrity to be fascinated by India. When Phil Keoghan, the host of The Amazing Race, was recently asked by Jacqueline Neiss about the most exotic place he has ever been, his reply was "The most exotic, most extreme, most impactful would be India. I love it too. I think it's such an incredible country."
Indeed, India is not for everyone. While you can find almost all comforts that we are used to at home but be prepared to be exposed to extreme poverty too. As long as you are mentally prepared to deal with that, it is definitely worth a visit and you will have the time of your life, particularly if you can stay away from large metropolitan areas and focus on exploring the historical sites. |

Every place on the planet has something beautiful, though it doesn't always mean that you can "vacation" there. For instance, no matter how attractive Sudan or Afghanistan or Iraq may appear to be from a travel perspective, now is not the time to visit. Haiti is one of those places that you can add to the list. Not exactly safe, unless you plan it really well. The State Department has warned Americans for years about travel to Haiti. In that context it was interesting to read about Paris Hilton's planned visit to Haiti on behalf of a non-for-profit organization. Like many other Americans clueless about the rest of the world, Ms. Hilton had no idea where Haiti was. When she was told that they speak French there [along with Creole], her response was, "I wouldn’t mind spending a few days there and the weekend in Paris.” By the way if you are like Paris Hilton, Haiti is just 750 miles off the coast of Florida. It shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic. So if Paris Hilton does go there, it wouldn't be anything like her trip to Disney. |
