Vacation like celebrities without the expense
Celebrity Travel News
One of the things that stars prize is privacy and many of them are willing to do whatever they can to get it.  Think Brangelina at the Burning Shore Resort - they rented the whole place. In other words, privacy and luxury come at a steep price.  Some of you write that you would like to enjoy the same level of privacy and peace but do not have the money to pay like the stars.  Well, we took a trip to find out and here is one destination where you can get most of what you want without the huge price tag.

We have already highlighted Honduras, a country in Central America where Mel Gibson filmed Apocalpyto and Richard Gere vacations frequently.  John John Kennedy even went on his honeymoon there.  But we are not talking about Copan or Roatan in Honduras - two destinations that attract the most celebrities.  We are talking about the tiny island of Utila.

How to spot celebrities?
Celebrity spottings
A lot of you have asked for tips on celebrity spotting while on vacation.  More specifically, many of you said that you did not always had a way to get into top nightclubs and restaurants but still wanted to find the stars.  Well, here are a few things to know as you develop star-spotting action plan:

  • Not all celebrities are as rich as you think.  Compared to many businesspeople, Hollywood stars are actually not so rich.  Most of them do not also live the glamorous lifestyle of the ultra-rich; it is just that we are more fascinated by the stars and tend to follow them more closely.  Most people have no clue how Bill Gates or Larry Ellison live.  What that means is that most stars do the same things that you do - go shopping, do household chores, and take care of other mundane activities.
  • While stars may hang out at the most hot spots like Pure , Nobu , and Tao , hotels, and nightclubs, they also go to buy their lattes at the local Starbucks.  (Related:  Il Sole and Il Tramezzino)
  • Believe it or not but many celebrities are big fans of cheap fast food (Taco Bell is clearly a big favorite of stars like Paris Hilton ).  There is another place called In-N-Out Burger that is a favorite of the stars include Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie , and Paris Hilton.

Track the stars in St. Lucia
Celebrity Travel News

couple, honeymoon, wedding, beach, tropical paradise, bridal dress

The number of places that you can go to in the Atlantic Ocean is incredible and the stars know how to find them.  While you might be tempted to get on that cheap flight to Jamaica or Cancun (not that there is anything wrong with these places), the celebrities are looking for an experience (apart from privacy) when they vacation.

And one destination in the Caribbean that provides both pleasure and privacy is the island of St. Lucia.  No surprise then that the island has been voted as the world's best wedding and honeymoon destination for three consecutive years.

Which stars have been to St. Lucia?

Or should we answer it by saying who hasn't.  But among the celebrities that have been spotted there are Harrison Ford, Tyra Banks, Jimmy Page, Oprah, Martha Stewart, Nick Cage, Raquel Welch, and Morgan Freeman.

Brangelina baby in Namibia
Celebrity Travel News

outdoor dining, restaurant, ocean view, burning shore, namibia, brangelina

The country of Namibia is so thinly populated and remote that not many people knew that it even existed till Brangelina arrived there.  Well, when you are Angelina Jolie, things are different.  She fell in love with Namibia when she filmed the movie "Beyond Borders."  And Brad Pitt just follws her like a pet dog.

After the rather long stay in France, they are now camping in Namibia and rented the whole Burning Shore luxury resort (7 Luxury Rooms and 5 Luxury Suites).  Their baby, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, was also born there on May 27, 2006.  In other words, if you wanted to rent a room and take their pictures there, forget it - the privacy was absolute.  But if you want to enjoy a truly tranquil vacation, you can stay at the resort, which by American standards is not that expensive.  It is located on the edge of the largest sand dunes in the world, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in between Swakopmund and Walvis Airport.

Taos, New Mexico is a celebrity hideout
Celebrity Travel News

If you want to follow the lifestyle of the stars (mind you, we all can follow it to some extent), apart from tracking where they go on vacation you also have to look at where they live.  For instance, the largest concentration of celebrities is in Hollywood and Malibu, but as we reported in another place, Brangelina is considering the Dominican Republic.

So this time let us take a look at that American Sweetheart Julia Roberts.  Indeed she seems equally comfortable in New York or Los Angeles, but she has a hideout in Taos, New Mexico.  And believe it or not, her wedding also took place at that ranch, estimated to be as much as 40 acres in area and costing millions in a part called Arroyo Seco.

Taos is tranquil town, relatively small, and full of tourists year around, but is a great place to live too.  It has been preserved to keep the traditional New Mexican architecture with plazas, churches and historical buildings around it.  Plus, while it is nice and warm during summer, you can also ski during winter months.adobes, taos, new mexico, southwest

The beautiful New Mexico landscape is visible everywhere and it still has cowboys and cowgirls.  It is a very peaceful place with many ranches in the area.   Taos and the areas around have opportunities for great hikes and sports during summer.  Although food and nightlife maybe more somewhat more abundant in Santa Fe, Taos is still well worth a vacation.

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie may settle in the Dominican Republic
Celebrity spottings

It is reported that Brad Pitt was looking for prime real estate in Dominican Republic (DR) during the first week of April 2006.  As you may recall, it was in the Dominican Republic that Angelina Jolie started to show off her rapidly growing belly early this year.  She was filming the movie The Good Shepherd with Matt Damon.  During her time in the beautiful, sunny Caribbean nation, Angelina is said to have told a charity aid worker in Santo Domingo, “Yes, I am pregnant.”  And then the tabloids took over.

Apparently, both Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, like most Hollywood celebrities, like the country so much that they have decided to get a home there.  Dominican Republic is not a bad place to live.  In fact many famous people have vacation homes there.

Celebrity Travel News

maya civilization, copan, honduras

Richard Gere, his wife Carey Lowel, and their son enjoyed a relaxing vacation in this Central American country.  The family visited Copan, the ruins of a city that is famous for being the center of culture, science, and arts for the Mayan civilization.  Mel Gibson was so intrigued by the Mayan Civilization that the film Apocalypto is being filmed there.

Richard and his wife visited one of the most famous Mayan temples, Rosalila.  They were also seen enjoying themselves in the pool and drinking beer.

Richard Gere stayed at the Hotel Marina Copán (in Copán Ruinas), the same hotel where John John Kennedy stayed during his honeymoon years ago.  According to hotel employees, Richard acted as any other tourist.  He and his family enjoyed traditional Honduran food, such as pupusas de loroco, chicken with loroco (loroco is a flower eaten in Central America), plantains, and refried beans.

Oprah vacations on Nevis Island
Celebrity Travel News

nevis island, sandy beach, palm trees

Oprah visited this small paradise in the Caribbean called Nevis and brought this best kept secret to everyone’s notice.

Nevis is part of St. Kitts and Nevis or the British Antilles.  Nevis is a lush tropical paradise - a small island with great people.   The temperature averages about 79 degrees Fahrenheit from November to April (perfect for that escape from the winter).  From May to October it's somewhat hotter and more humid. The average water temperature is 80 degrees F.

The island is only 36 square miles in area approximately - 7 miles long and 5 miles wide, and lies near the top of the Lesser Antilles archipelago, about 200 miles south of Puerto Rico, and just west of Antigua.

It has several fine, black sand beaches, but Pinney's and Newcastle seem to be the all-around favorites.  Diving is becoming a favored sport; other activities include surfing, snorkeling, hiking, tennis, and golf. Of course, afternoon tea is a must, as is watching cricket matches.  If you have not been introduced to cricket yet, this may be a perfect opportunity to learn the basics.
